Obagi Blue Peel - a non surgical alternative to plastic surgery. Category:   Articles ::  Beauty ::  Plastic Surgery

Obagi Blue Peel - a non surgical alternative to plastic surgery.
If you are concerned or dubious about a full facelift, then a chemical peel may be the answer. Though there is no lifting effect, a skin peel removes old skin and replaces it with new.

How a chemical peel works:

A dermatologist applies an acidic fluid to the face, (or other areas, such as the neck or legs). The fluid has the effect of a light burning. During the following week the surface skin blackens and peels off (hence the name skin peel), and is replaced with fresh skin.

This procedure is ideal to remove superficial skin marks and fine lines. The experience ranges from tingling to severe stinging, depending on the amount of acid applied. A light anesthetic may be needed for intense applications. The Obagi Blue Peel is a far more aggressive peel than either the Alpha Hydroxy or the Beta Hydroxy. It is a one to four step application of blue solution mixed with TCA (Trichloracetic Acid), uses a slow-acting solution to rejuvenate your skin. These applications will lead to the removal of thin surface layers of aged and damaged skin. It is applied on the skin in one to four separate coats.

There are many types of skin rejuvenation techniques, including chemical skin peels with various types of gentle acids that smooth and regenerate your own collagen. This application is said to help the skin produce its own collagen. Patients note slight to significant feel of burning on the skin after each coat application. Some patients require anesthesia because they are very uncomfortable. Most have the procedure done without anesthetics.

The Obagi Blue Peel is considered a "medium depth" facial peel because it is stronger than the popular Glycolic Acid Peel and requires less recovery time than a full Laser Resurfacing, therefore falling in-between the two treatments with respect to results and recovery time

The Obagi skin care system can transform your skin by improving the appearance of blemishes, age spots, wrinkles, and scars. This treatment can be tailored to fit the requirements of your specific skin type, exfoliating layers of dead skin cells to reveal the healthy cells beneath. It can be performed on the face as well as the neck, arms, hands and legs. It promotes and restores healthy skin and can remove many of the sun damage spots and fine lines.

Depending upon the condition of your skin, 1-4 coats of the Obagi BLUE PEEL solution will be applied. At each level, you will experience a mild burning sensation that lasts 2-3 minutes. The doctor may use an electric fan to minimize this sensation. A light bluish tint remains on your skin, but it will wash off in 12 to 24 hours. Your skin will begin to peel within 2 to 3 days and should be healed in an average to 7 to 10 days. This peeling should not disrupt your regular lifestyle.

When repeated over a period of time, the Obagi Blue Peel can produce results equal to those of a deeper peel while requiring less recovery time - only seven to ten days. With proper treatment, the skin’s natural elasticity is restored, and fresh, healthy skin is revealed. A stinging sensation may be experienced, and a fan is usually set up to help alleviate some of the discomfort. TCA peels sometimes require two or more treatments, spaced out over weeks or months, to achieve the best results. Some patients will require 2-3 treatments.

The Obagi Blue Peel can help correct wrinkles, melasma, scars, laxity, large pores, and non-facial skin conditions. This is an excellent alternative for those with mild to moderate facial wrinkles or pigment blemishes who prefer not to have laser skin resurfacing.
