Is my child obese?

I recently noticed that my 13 year old boy was getting a bit of a tummy. So I went on several websites and lots said the most accurate way to tell was to do the waist circumferance in centemetres divided by the hight in centimeters. So i did this and it came out as 0.8 The sites all said that anything over 0.5 is obese! I was shocked to see this. Although i could almost belive it. But is it true. His waist is 45inches - 115centimeters and his height is 155 centimeters. He weighs 13.5 stone. Please tell me.

Re: Is my child obese?

Hi it is me again. (the one who posted the question.) I have some more information for those who can help me. I have just found out why he is putting on so much weight. His friend told me about what he eats when he is at school. With this i know what he eats in a day. First i give him breakfast, often wheetabix with a bananna. Then he goes and buys somthing like a mars bar after he gets off the school bus. At school he will eat 2 slices of toast and another chocolate bar. At lunch he will eat somthing like pizza and chips with some ice cream. After school he will go to the chippy and get a medium chips and a coke. When he gets home he will have a piece of fruit, a packet of crisps and his meal - which is very healthy. This is an awful problem. I dont know how to stop him from eating all this and i dont know where he gets the money from. Aswell as my previous questions please could someone tell me around how many calories he has a day and how to cut this down. Thanks.

Re: Is my child obese?

Really obesity is a big concern for our daily life. Obesity develops over time and cannot be solved overnight. Remember that this is not an emergency. Do not expect dramatic change. That is unrealistic. Don’t be scared. Read under the following article (also check the chart) .You might be helpful:
