Memory Impairements in Mental Health : Psychology

Topic: Memory Impairements

Message: Don't worry. Consult with your psychiatrist. It might be for ECT. Electroconvulsive therapy is the most controversial treatment in psychiatry. ECT is used primarily in the treatment of severe depression, and psychiatrists say it has proved the most effective treatment in many cases. It is the effects of ECT on memory that give rise to much of the controversy and concern surrounding its use. In particular there is controversy about the long-term, rather than the acute, effects of ECT.It’s history of abuse, unfavorable media presentation and compelling testimony of former patients all contribute to the controversial context in which ECT is viewed. There are clearly significant side effects, especially acute confusion and persistent memory deficits. Many patients report loss of memory for events that occurred in the days, weeks or months surrounding the ECT. Many of these memories may return, although not always. The American Psychiatric Association has very specific guidelines for the administration of ECT. It is to be used only to treat severe, debilitating mental disorders and not to control behavior. In most states, written and informed consent is required. ECT is generally used in severely depressed patients for whom psychotherapy and medication are proving ineffective. It may also be considered when there is an imminent risk of suicide because ECT often has much quicker results than antidepressant remedies. So, it is the effects of ECT on memory that give rise to much of the controversy and concern surrounding its use. In particular there is controversy about the long-term, rather than the acute, effects of ECT.Generally this happens temporarily; soon you will revive your sharp memory. Just tell your doctor everything and do whatever he recommends.

ethics among pychitrists in Mental Health : Psychology

Topic: ethics among pychitrists

Message: Ok do you think the following falls under ethic violations? 1. You walk into an office to meet with a doctor and he tells you to wait a second. He then preceeds to call his dicophone and dictate notes on the previous patient while you are sitting there and can hear the whole thing. 2. You are "ordered" to go to a "shrink". When you get there you find out that this dr has read your entire file, discussed the case at length with your accuser (dyfs) and that he has been given and read a previous evaluation. A. are these ethic violations? B. can this doctor really have an unbiased untainted opinion after reading and discussing you with others.

I'm judgemental..... in Mental Health : Psychology

Topic: I'm judgemental.....

Message: Well; judging is about wanting there to be better decisions. When things don't go as planned, I'd suggest you judge or evaluate yourself and others, but go for decisions and words that are realistic... Like some problems can't be solved instantly... Slowly, I'd suggest, try to improve a situation...

I m talking to my self, can't stop it... in Mental Health : Psychology

Topic: I m talking to my self, can't stop it...

Message: I really don't think there is anything wrong with talking to yourself. I do talk to myself. A lot of people may think it is strange because they do their debating inside their head. Other people may find it odd if when you talk to yourself, you talk in third person. I often do that, and give inanimate objects life. But all you are doing is thinking outloud. There is nothing wrong with it. Many people are able to think silently, but other people need to hear what is being thought in order to understand it. The biggest problem with speaking your thoughts is that other people may take offense to what you are saying. Don't worry to much. You can try to learn how to control it, but it isn't that much of a bad thing.

Topic: I m talking to my self, can't stop it...

Message: The probelem you faced is very normal for some people i think.Everyday we talk with myself. But i feel your probelem is differnt because your family member especialy your parents & from your message i got u realy care them too much.....i think u can take it easily but u need remedy from it cz the surroundings u face ...nobody want to be that type of exceptional.Howevr ,if u wanna got relief from it ,the best way is meditation ,i think.I wish u have known of this .Its just a process where frequently confused with various forms of concentration. The purpose of concentration exercises is to focus our full undivided attention on a specific aspect of functioning of our mind and/or the body in order to accomplish a certain goal or develop a certain skill. Exercises such as yoga, tai-chi, breathing exercises, visualization are all forms of concentration. i know its tough for a normal people....i think u may not......but its realy helpful....follow the following steps if you realy wanna get rid of it...1. take a comfortable meditation posture, one of the postures described above 2. close your eyes and relax all muscles in your body, including the face. A few alternate nostril yoga breaths is very helpful at the beginning of this stage - breathing in through one nostril and breathing out through another, closing nostrils with fingers and altering closed nostril with each breath. 3. disregard any thought as it comes - do not continue a kaleidoscope of thoughts - continue this for 20 minutes or so, maintaining your mind blank. You can use a mental sound "ooooohhmmm" (a mantra) every time you have a thought. Alternatively you may keep counting thoughts, discarding each one as it comes, without analysing it. When you go down to 2 or 3 thoughts in 5 minutes, you meditate successfully. If its realy tough to meditation then u can freely discuss your probelem with your parents....or the people surrounding you who heard your voice...i mean share it...then try to find out when you r doing this...is it any special time..i mean is it always happening in certain time...like out from washing rrom or like that ...if then careful that time...& elaborate & clear about the probelem to myself....think it ll helpful 4 u
