Hello Everyone!
Monday night I started feeling real bad. It started with my stomach hurting, then a few hours later I was so cold. I could not stop shivering. My muscles were aching and my head was hurting. I also had fever. I felt like I did when I was detoxing from methadone. (I detoxed 15 mos ago, and have been clean ever since) I didn't sleep well Monday night, and I still felt very bad Tuesday morning, so I went to the hospital. The doctor told me that it was stress. I knew stress could make you sick, but I didn't think it could make you that sick. Has anyone ever heard of this? He also put me on celexa. I took it for 2 days. It made me nauseated and I could not sleep. It also made me feel more depressed. I did not take it last night, and I don't feel as sad as I did yesterday morning. I still don't feel like myself though. I suppose it could be stress. Any thoughts would be appreciated!!
Thank you! Alissa

Alissa,
Stress can do amazing things to a persons body, muscle tension, headaches, body aches, sleeping too much or not enough, and the list goes on and on. Fist thing you need to do is evaluate the day before your symptoms. Anything out of the ordinary happen, eat somthing different, around someone who was sick (mono) or something of that nature. Arguements, workload at you job or school etc. Have you taken any medicine that you usually dont take? These things can all be contributing factors. Headache with nausea could be a migraine, sinus infection, or multiple other things. Stress relief in todays society is not as easy to accomplish as most people think. Starting a new medicine like Celexa may or may not be the way for you to go. However, if you do start a medicine like Celexa which is a Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor may not be the right medicine for you. Not to mention starting a medicine like that then abruptly quitting it may make your symptoms worse. You only took it for two days and then quit, however, it is still risky stopping a medicine of this nature without contacting your Doctor. 2 days really wasnt enough time for the medicine to take affect and it is generally prescribed for depression. Try asking your doctor about a dosage adjustment reducing it down then slowly taking you to a therapeutic level. There are several other medicines available and not all of them work for certain people. Do you have history of OCD, panic, GAD (Generalized Anxiety) or anything like that? If so, speak with you doctor about it and see if you can get some information on coping skills for stress along with a medicine that will help you along. Prozac, Paxil (paroxetine) Buspar, and several others can be used for similar reasons. Being that you have recovered from methadone I would advise my doctor of that if he/she doesnt know. This will help detour them from placing you on anxiety or panice medicines like xanax, klonopin and etc. These types of drugs generally given for panix disorder, anxiety, (in a more severe form) are sometimes prescribed. If you are easily addicted to medicines I would stay clear of benzo's just in case. I am NOT A DOCTOR, but I do hope this has helped you some. And as always see your general physician or practitioner before making changes to meds and/or taking herbal supplements as well. Keep the same doctor unless you just feel like they are not doing you any good. This will keep down mistakes and maintain a single record of treatment with 1 person and that way you dont have a lot of wasted time and resources going over your records from several different Doctors. Please feel free to email me if you have questions or need someone to talk to. I would be glad to help.
Best of Luck,
JT
